BackTow Tractor
Course Aim
To equip candidates with the skills, knowledge and understanding to operate a Tow Tractor in a safe and effective manner at all times.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course the successful candidates will:
- Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as an operator.
- Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer's handbook for the particular machine to be used.
- Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions
- Be able to locate and identify key controls and explain their functions
- Set up an exclusion zone
- Conduct all pre-occupational checks in accordance with manufacturers and legislative requirements
- Identify and maintain PPE appropriate for Tow tractor use
- Prepare the Tow tractor for use
- Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area
- Attach and set Trailers, Mounted and PTO drives ready for operation
- Operate machinery safely and efficiently
- Environmental considerations
- Storage and transport of implements and attachments
- Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures
Assessment
Pre-shift inspection - observation
Theoretical - 5 written and 25 multiple choice questions
Practical - observation
Certification
National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS)
or
Howlett Training Partnership (HTP).
Course Duration
1 to 5 days - depending on previous experience.
