BackTelescopic Handler (all sizes)
Course Aim
To equip candidates with the skills, knowledge and understanding to operate a Rough Terrain Telescopic Handler in a safe and effective manner at all times.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course the successful candidate will be able to:
- Carry out pre-operational checks of the truck, to include truck familiarisation.
- Identify hazards and understand the principles of Risk Assessments.
- Know and understand the relevant regulations, ACOPS and guidelines associated with Telescopic lift trucks i.e. (PUWER / LOLER).
- Manoeuvre the truck safely over a variety of terrains (including rough) laden and unladen, in forward and reverse, including inclines and confined spaces.
- Set and use the Safe Load Indicator for lifting on wheels / outriggers where applicable.
- Stack and de-stack loads from a scaffold tower to at least 75% of the trucks safe maximum height capacity. (boom usage).
- Bulk stack and de-stack palletised loads on top and adjacent to each other.
- Load and unload a flat bed vehicle with at least 3 palletised loads.
- Position the truck to set down and retrieve a load to at least 75% of the trucks horizontal lifting capacity. (boom usage).
- Use attachments in correct manner where fitted.
- Re-fuel a truck, park it safely, complete and record safety check logs and report any defects.
Assessment
Pre-shift inspection – observation.
Theoretical – 5 written and 20 multiple choice questions (80% pass)
Practical – fault penalty point system (40 points max.) and timed.
Certification
National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS)
or
Howlett Training Partnership (HTP).
Course Duration
1 to 5 days – depending on previous experience.
